When it comes to exercise, there is this idea that more is better. The more you workout, the healthier or fitter you’ll be. The harder you push yourself, the greater the rewards.
Unfortunately, this could not be farther from the truth.
I meet with many women who are struggling to lose weight and they can’t figure out why. They are working out almost everyday – running, spinning, doing Insanity, bootcamps, yogalaties, Zumba, archery and a weekly core class – yet they cannot lose a pound. More often than not, I tell clients to back off their workouts.
The fact is that over-exercising can seriously break you…not to mention make you too exhausted for spontaneous dance parties when you hear Wham! on the radio (or maybe that’s just me). Trust me, I’ve been down the road of over-exercising and it ain’t pretty!
In this episode of S&STV, Sarah and I talk about how to know if you are overtraining: the signs to look for if you are exercising too much, when you should dial it back or take time off and how to incorporate exercise in the midst of high stress.
Send your questions about health or nutrition to asksummerandsarah@gmail.com and we’ll feature you in an upcoming episode.
